Which military jobs can help with CIA entry?

I have a long-term goal of working for the CIA, and I’m wondering what military jobs might best prepare me or increase my chances of getting in. Any advice on a good career path?

A number of military roles can prepare you and make you more attractive to the CIA. It's worth noting that both the military and the CIA value diverse skill sets, so it might be beneficial to consider your own personal strengths and interests before taking a decision.

First, Intelligence roles in the military, such as Intelligence Analyst, can provide practical experience in the field. This would involve analyzing intelligence data, preparing reports, and learning specific methodologies-- all transferable skills that the CIA values.

Second, roles in Military Police or Security Forces can also provide a good foundation. These roles will involve practical law enforcement experience and training in safeguarding bases, weaponry, personnel etc.—skills that may translate well to CIA's protective agent positions.

Another consideration would be roles related to linguistics like Cryptologic Linguist or Human Intelligence Collector. CIA highly values linguistics skills and cultural understanding, and these roles provide practical training in foreign languages along with field intelligence experience.

Lastly, Special Ops like the Navy SEALS or Army Green Berets can also be a path to the CIA since they provide advanced training in surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat.

Remember, the key to a career in intelligence is a diverse range of skills and experiences, so try to find a role that aligns with your strengths and interests, is challenging and keeps you motivated. If possible, consider completing a degree during or after your military service, as this will further bolster your application to the CIA. CIA places a high value on not just military but also academic credentials.
