What are the requirements to become military police?

I'm a high school junior looking at options for after graduation. What are the requirements to join the military as a police officer? Do you need any specific qualifications or training beforehand?

Becoming a military police officer involves a few distinct steps and requirements. First of all, you need a high school diploma or GED. Though it may not specifically be required to become military police, college or work experience in a related field may make you more competitive.

To become a part of the Military Police (MP) across different U.S. military branches, you must also meet certain age and physical fitness requirements which vary among the branches. Usually, the minimum age is 17 with parental consent or 18 without consent. You'll also need to pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) which determines your eligibility for military service and particular jobs within that service.

Once selected, enlistees then attend basic combat training (also known as boot camp), a program that can last from 7 to 13 weeks depending on the branch of service.

After completing the basic training, you would go to the Military Police School, also known as an Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This course can take about 8-12 weeks and usually covers areas such as law, investigations, detainee operations, patrol procedures, and warrior tasks and battle drills (this varies by military branch).

Please note that each military branch has their own set of requirements and processes. Therefore, you should check with each specific branch (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard) to understand the particular qualifications and processes.

I strongly recommend reaching out to a local recruiting office, as they will be able to provide detailed, timely, and accurate information geared specifically towards your interests and qualifications.
