Intrigued by military scuba diving jobs

I'm interested in scuba diving and considering a career in the military. Does anyone have experience with military scuba diving roles? What kind of training is involved, and what sort of work do they actually do?

There are several roles involving scuba diving across different branches of the military, each with its unique set of training requirements, tasks, and responsibilities. Here are examples from three branches:

The Navy has the Diver designation (ND) that operates underwater in tasks that involve maintenance, salvage, construction, or demolition. Training includes specialized physical conditioning, water adaptation, underwater mechanics, and familiarity with diving gear, procedures, and safety rules.

In the Army, Dive Detachments handle aquatic engineering, inspection, and repair missions. Soldiers enter the Engineer Diver Phase I Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before advancing to Phase II Course at Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Florida.

The U.S. Coast Guard also has its own diving program wherein divers perform duties like underwater inspections of infrastructure or vessels, maintenance and repair of aids to navigation, and law enforcement or security missions.

Keep in mind that military diving is intense, rigorous, and involves a high degree of physical fitness, focus, and skill. Being able to scuba dive is only one aspect of it; you will often be required to handle stressful situations and cope with adverse conditions. It's recommended that you further research each roles' physical requirements and discuss with a recruiter who could provide in-depth information about the specifics of each role.
