What's the schedule like for 4th Class Year at the Coast Guard Academy?

I'm curious about what the daily schedule is like for a 4th class cadet at the Coast Guard Academy. If any current cadets or alumni can share some details, that would be awesome. Really trying to get a feel for day-to-day life.

Your 4th class year, also known as your freshman year, at the United States Coast Guard Academy is especially rigorous. Each day is different, depending on your academic schedule, but here's a general idea:

You start your day with Reveille (wake up call) around 0600 hrs.

Morning physical training is next, happening several times a week. This could include a variety of activities including running and other exercises. Shower and dress in the prescribed uniform, and then head to morning formation.

Breakfast roll call typically happens at 0700 hrs. After breakfast, you'll clean your room for the daily inspection.

Classes usually start around 0800 hrs and can run until 1600 hrs, with a break in the middle for lunch (Noon meal formation is at 1145 hrs). The United States Coast Guard Academy has small class sizes and your schedule might vary depending on your major and course load.

From 1600 to 1800 hrs, you'll have sports practice or mandatory physical training if you're not participating in an NCAA sport.

Then it's time for dinner (Evening meal formation is around 1800 hrs).

After dinner, you'll have what they term a "study hour", which is actually much longer. This dedicated quiet time is designed to allow cadets to focus on homework or studying.

Taps (bedtime) is around 2300 hrs, although some cadets may stay up later to study.

Remember that Fourth Class Cadets are also expected to adhere to certain customs and carry out additional duties which may take time out of their day, such as delivering mail or carrying out watchstanding duties. Also, weekends can be quite different, with more leisure time and opportunities for activities like community service, club participation or attending religious services. Keep in mind that every cadet's experience is invariably different - this schedule reflects a generalized structure. I hope you find this helpful as you consider the unique opportunities and challenges of being a Coast Guard Academy cadet.
