Suggestions for best instruments to get a music scholarship?

I'm considering applying for music scholarships, but I'm not sure which instruments are most likely to earn scholarships. What are the best instruments for securing a music scholarship?

While it's true that certain instruments might be less commonly played and hence might offer more scholarship opportunities due to less competition, it's crucial to remind you that a genuine connection and mastery in your chosen instrument is essential. Colleges and scholarship committees look for passion, commitment, and proficiency in an applicant's chosen field, so it's fundamental that you choose an instrument that truly resonates with you.

However, for the sake of providing an answer, less commonly played orchestral instruments like the bassoon, oboe, viola, and French horn often have high demand in college symphonies and bands, which could increase your chances of getting a scholarship. It's often more competitive for popular instruments like the violin or piano.

Don't forget percussion instruments as well. Percussion is much more than the traditional drum set; think marimba, vibraphone, and bells.

For jazz bands, instruments such as the saxophone, trombone, and trumpet, could also lead to scholarship opportunities.

In terms of vocals, being proficient in styles outside of the popular music genre, such as opera or jazz, could make you a stronger candidate for scholarships.

Consider these options, but remember your enjoyment and dedication to the instrument will have a significant impact on your success!
