Is the Naval Academy Prep School tuition-free?

Thinking about attending the Naval Academy Prep School, but I'm worried about the cost. Is it free, or are there fees involved? Trying to figure out if it's a financially viable option for me.

The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) is indeed tuition-free. As a matter of fact, students, or midshipman candidates, actually receive a small stipend during their time at NAPS. While you're at NAPS, you’re an active-duty Sailor in the U.S. Navy; hence, you are paid according to military scales. This can be used to cover your personal expenses.

However, keep in mind that entry into NAPS is competitive, and it's typically recommended to students who are candidates for the Naval Academy but may need a bit of extra academic preparation. Also, it’s crucial to understand that committing to NAPS requires a service commitment to the U.S. Navy.

Lastly, while lack of tuition does provide financial relief, it's essential to weigh all additional factors. The objective of NAPS is to prepare its students for the demanding courses at the U.S. Naval Academy, so ensure that the Navy is indeed the path you wish to follow and you are ready for the challenges and obligations that come with it. It's a big decision to make, so be sure you have all the info you need.
