What's the Coast Guard Academy Genesis Program?

Can someone explain what the Genesis Program at the Coast Guard Academy is all about? I'm interested in understanding its purpose and how it can benefit prospective students like me considering a military path.

The Genesis Invitational Program at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is a preparatory program designed to help support and prepare candidates, particularly from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups, for the rigors of the Academy.

Over a five-day period in the summer, students get a firsthand glimpse of life at the Academy. They participate in activities that encompass all facets of academy life, including physical, academic, and military disciplines and traditions, as well as a taste of residential life in a military academy setting.

But it's not all drill and discipline! Participants also explore team building and affinity activities, and chat with current cadets about their experiences and career prospects within the Coast Guard service.

It's a great way to network and get an inside look before fully committing to the Academy. It can help students determine whether the lifestyle, workload, and principles of the USCGA align with their personal and career goals.

However, it's important to note that attending the Genesis program doesn't guarantee acceptance into the Academy. Rather, it equips candidates with a better understanding of what to expect and how to prepare for the application process and the rigors of life at the Academy. It can certainly be a beneficial step if you're considering this path!
