The U.S. Coast Guard Academy application process is a bit more in-depth compared to a conventional college. Here's your step-by-step guide:

1. Application: Start your application on the US Coast Guard Academy website. The application is open from February to October of your senior year in high school. This will be a comprehensive application that includes biographical information, academic records, extracurricular activities, and a series of essays.

2. Standardized Tests: Keep in mind, when scores are reported, the academy considers your highest subscores across all the dates you took your ACT/SAT to form your superscore.

3. Fitness Assessment: A Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) is mandatory. This is a six-event physical fitness test used to assess your stamina, strength, and agility. Start training for this early, and get in the habit of staying active and fit.

4. Medical Examination: A Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) Medical Exam will also be required. This will include vision and hearing tests, a medical history review, and a thorough physical examination.

5. Interview: There is a formal interview process as well. The academy will connect you with a Coast Guard Academy Admissions Partner, who is a volunteer responsible for supporting and guiding you throughout the application process. This individual will conduct your interview.

6. Nomination: Unlike other service academies, you don't need a congressional nomination for the Coast Guard Academy.

7. Transcripts: Request official high school transcripts be sent to the Academy's admissions office.

8. Letters of Recommendation: This is optional, but having recommendation letters from your counselor or teachers who can vouch for your character, leadership skills, and dedication can strengthen your application.

Remember, Coast Guard Academy is looking for candidates with strong physical fitness, leadership potential, and academic competence. Try to demonstrate all of these across different aspects of your application. Best of luck!
