Coast Guard Academy Spring Break Policies?

I'm curious about how spring break works at the Coast Guard Academy. Do students get a regular spring break like at other colleges, or is it different due to military commitments? Would love to hear from anyone with experience!

The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) does have a traditional spring break, usually falling in March, which is similar to most civilian colleges. This means cadets are free to leave campus and do not have any required military training or commitments during this period.

However, something to keep in mind is that, given the nature of the Academy, cadets must return by the end of the break period on time as there will be consequences for any late arrivals. Students must also adhere to conduct standards even while on break.

On the point of travel, many students engage in international programs and service projects organized by the Academy during this period, which counts as a part of their leadership and character-building experience. While not mandatory, these experiences are quite popular amongst cadets and demonstrate the Academy's commitment to public service.

In the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, these policies can be subject to change on short notice, and cadets are expected to respect any new guidelines put in place. As such, it is always a good idea to check with the Academy or a current student for the most recent information.
