Joining the Coast Guard Academy Swim Team?

I'm a high school swimmer considering applying to the Coast Guard Academy, and I'd love to know what the swim team is like. How competitive is it to join, and how does training fit into the cadet schedule?

The US Coast Guard Academy, like many other military academies, has a demanding schedule, but it certainly leaves room for athletics, including the competitive swim team. Cadets squeeze in their training sessions between academic classes, military obligations, and personal time. Mornings generally start quite early, can include physical training, followed by academics during the day, and then practice for athletics in the afternoon.

Joining the swim team, like any other varsity athletic team, requires a certain level of dedication and skill. Your times and records are significant admittance factors.
