How many students typically apply to Annapolis Naval Academy?

I'm doing some research on the Naval Academy and I want to know about the competition for admission. How many applications do they receive each year? Is it super competitive?

The United States Naval Academy at Annapolis is indeed a very competitive institution with a low admission rate. While this can vary slightly from year to year, the Naval Academy typically receives around 16,000 applications annually. Despite this large number of applicants, only about 1,200 new midshipmen (students at the Naval Academy) are accepted and enrolled each year. This results in an admission rate of about 8-10%, which classifies the academy as highly selective.

Keep in mind that candidates are not only evaluated on their academic performance, but also their physical fitness, and character. They also must secure a nomination, typically from a member of Congress. These holistic requirements make the Naval Academy unique compared to traditional colleges.

Remember, each applicant has a unique path and set of experiences, so don't let competition discourage you if you're interested in pursuing an education and career in the Navy or Marine Corps. The Naval Academy offers a top-tier education and unique opportunities that can be very rewarding.
