How to transfer from NAPS to the Naval Academy?

I'm currently at NAPS and aiming to transfer to the Naval Academy. What steps should I be aware of to make this transition smooth? Are there any specific requirements I need to consider?

Students who attend the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) typically aim to gain admission into the United States Naval Academy (USNA) afterwards. Being in NAPS already puts you on a path toward that goal.

1. Academic Performance: To start with, maintaining strong academic performance at NAPS is essential. USNA admits students from NAPS who demonstrate they are capable of managing the rigorous academic demands of the Naval Academy. Be sure to excel in your academic coursework.

2. Physical Fitness: Another important aspect is maintaining your physical fitness. You’re required to pass the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) at NAPS which includes a 1.5 mile run, 2 minutes of push-ups, and 2 minutes of sit-ups. Meeting these requirements will be a part of the conditions for your transition to USNA.

3. Leadership Qualities: USNA also looks for students who have displayed quality leadership skills. So, try to take on roles that show you can command, be responsible and show initiative.

4. Medical Evaluation: Prior to admittance to USNA, you will have to successfully pass a medical evaluation. The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) is the entity that processes these evaluations.

5. Counselor Recommendations: Finally, your recommendations from your NAPS faculty or staff will also matter. NAPS staff provides ratings of your performance in military training and evaluations of your character and leadership potential. So, ensuring that you meet both the academic and non-academic requirements is key.

In general, success at NAPS is met with a successful candidacy for appointment at USNA, provided these conditions are satisfied. However, remember that each year can be slightly different and there are no absolute guarantees, so it's important to stay dedicated and work closely with your advisors at NAPS to assist in the transition process. Good luck with your goal of attending the Naval Academy!
