Is the Naval Academy test-optional?

With many colleges going test-optional, I'm wondering about the Naval Academy. Do they still require standardized test scores for admission, or can you apply without them?

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is not test-optional. As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the Naval Academy still requires that applicants submit either SAT or ACT scores as part of their application. For both standardized tests, the Naval Academy doesn't require the optional writing sections, so you can still submit your score if you didn't take the writing sections of the exams.

However, keep in mind that the admissions process at the Naval Academy is unique in several ways. In addition to the standard academic, extracurricular, and personal components of your application, you will also need to pass a physical fitness assessment and obtain a nomination from a Congressional representative, among other requirements. It's a rather holistic process with emphasis on leadership potential, morality, and physical aptitude in addition to academic potential.

Remember, while standardized test scores are important, they are not the only factor that will determine your admission. The Naval Academy will look at your comprehensive profile when making a decision. If you are still in the process of studying for these exams, understand that preparation and practice are key for success. Make use of available resources and practice tests to familiarize yourself with the format and content of these exams.
