Marching Band Scholarships at Top Colleges?

As a junior in the marching band, I want to continue in college and possibly get some scholarship help. What colleges offer good scholarships for marching band members? I'd love to hear about your experiences if you're in college marching band!

While scholarship opportunities can vary widely by institution, several top colleges do offer scholarships specifically for marching band participation.

The University of Notre Dame, for example, has a Band Scholarship that offers financial aid to members of the Marching Band. These awards are based on both need and merit.

Ohio State University also has the Athletic Band Scholarship program which recognizes students in the Marching Band for both their musical talent and academic achievements.

The University of Southern California (USC), known for its strong marching band – The Spirit of Troy, does not provide scholarships specifically for marching band, but band members can apply for USC's various music scholarships and need-based financial aid.

Before applying, it's crucial to check each school's marching band and financial aid websites for specific information on eligibility and how to apply. It's also a good idea to contact the band directors for details.

Band scholarships are highly competitive, and selection criteria often include musical ability, marching skill, leadership qualities, and academic performance. A strong audition - where you display technical skill, musicality, and marching ability - is essential.

Keep in mind that most marching band scholarships are modest and might cover a portion of tuition, or school-related expenses like books and equipment. Some may require a commitment to the band for a certain number of years.

Lastly, make sure to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be eligible for any need-based aid opportunities.
