What are the minimum academic standards for the Naval Academy?

I'm interested in applying to the Naval Academy and want to know what the minimum academic standards are. What GPA, test scores, or other academic achievements should I aim for to have a competitive application?

The United States Naval Academy does not specify a minimum GPA or test score for its applicants. Instead, they look at the overall strength and competitiveness of each individual's academic profile. That being said, to be competitive, you should aim for a high standard of academic excellence, both in terms of GPA and test scores.

The Academy's admission is quite selective. Most accepted students tend to have high school GPAs that average around 3.5 - 4.0 on a 4.0 scale, though the Academy does take into account the rigor of the courses you've taken. They will look favorably on more challenging courses like AP or IB classes.

In regards to standardized test scores, while the Naval Academy does not have a minimum requirement, successful candidates generally have competitive SAT or ACT scores. Based on the profile of past admitted students, an SAT score above 1250 or an ACT composite score above 26 is generally favorable. However, it's important to note that demonstrating strength in Math and English is particularly vital as the Academy looks closely at these areas.

Furthermore, keep in mind that admission to the Naval Academy is not solely determined by academic achievements. Strong leadership experiences, physical fitness, and a demonstrated interest in serving in the military are all important aspects of a competitive application.
