What happens if you're academically weak at the Naval Academy?

I'm hoping to apply to the Naval Academy, but I'm also worried about maintaining good grades once there. What support systems are in place for students who might struggle academically?

The U.S. Naval Academy offers a range of academic support services for its Midshipmen, aimed at enabling all to succeed and achieve their academic potential.

1. Tutoring: The Academy has a robust tutoring program in place. Most departments provide tutors who are usually faculty members or senior Midshipmen. If you're struggling in a specific course, you can request a tutor, and the department will facilitate setting up regular tutoring sessions.

2. Study Groups: The Academy also encourages Midshipmen to form study groups. Not only do these groups facilitate an atmosphere of teamwork, but they also provide an avenue to discuss, clarify, and reinforce concepts covered in class.

3. Counselor Support: The Academy also provides academic advice and counseling through dedicated academic advisors. These advisors can guide you on course selection, study strategies, time management, and how to balance your academic and other commitments.

The Naval Academy’s ultimate goal is to prepare future leaders, and they understand that everyone's journey in achieving this is different. They care about the welfare of their Midshipmen, and they are committed to making sure you have the resources you need to succeed, not just academically, but in all aspects of your life at the academy.

Don't hesitate to reach out for help should you find yourself struggling. It's important to remember that the goal is not just to get through, but to fully absorb and understand the material, as it will form the fundamental knowledge you'll apply throughout your career in the Navy or Marine Corps.
