Role of a Naval Academy Admissions Liaison Officer?

Can someone explain what a Naval Academy Admissions Liaison Officer does? I’m interested in applying to the Naval Academy and want to understand how they can assist in the application process. Do they provide guidance or help in some way?

A Naval Academy Admissions Liaison Officer (ALO) serves as a bridge between the U.S. Naval Academy and prospective students like you and their families. They provide an important link by sharing information, answering questions, and guiding through the application process.

ALOs assist in a variety of ways. They conduct interviews to assess suitability for the academy and prepare a formal candidate evaluation report to be added to your application. The interviews also provide you with an opportunity to ask questions about life at the academy and the expectations of Midshipmen.

Certain parts of the academy application process can be more complex – such as a medical examination, fitness assessment, and most notably, obtaining a nomination, usually from a Congressional Representative. ALOs can guide in navigating these steps.

Also, ALO often hosts or participates in events such as Academy Nights, college fairs, and informational sessions. By attending these events, you can gain invaluable insights into the application process and life as a Midshipman.

Remember, though the ALO is there to assist, the application process for service academies remains rigorous and demanding, requiring dedication and initiative from the applicant throughout. Good luck with your application!
