How are the facilities at the Coast Guard Academy?

I'm researching the Coast Guard Academy and really interested in what their facilities are like. Are there any standout features or things that need improvement?

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, has a reputation for well-structured and maintained facilities. The academy campus is on the smaller side with about 103 acres but is packed with state-of-the-art resources.

One standout facility is the Academy's library, the "Waeshle Library," which is a great place for study and research. With over 100,000 books and 10,000 periodicals and government documents available, it's an essential resource for students.

Students at the academy have the opportunity to use the multi-million dollar Ship Control and Navigation Training System (SCANTS), a state-of-the-art simulator used to train the cadets in navigation and ship handling.

The athletic facilities are also well-regarded. The Roland Hall swimming complex, for example, is an Olympic-sized pool that caters to the academy's swimming and diving teams. The Billard Hall, where the academy's basketball and volleyball teams play, seats around 1500 people.

Improvements are always ongoing at the academy as they strive to maintain the highest standards for their cadets. However, as of now, some students have mentioned that the dormitory facilities could use updating and improvements in terms of general comfort and amenities.

All in all, the Coast Guard Academy prides itself on having up-to-date facilities and resources that greatly aid in the development of the cadets' education and training. The campus is a blend of historic architecture and modern facilities, providing a unique experience for those who choose to study there. It's recommended to visit the campus personally to get a better feel of what the academy has to offer.
