GPA Requirements for the Coast Guard Academy

I'm looking into the Coast Guard Academy and trying to figure out what GPA I ideally need. Can anyone tell me what GPA is competitive for admission? I'd appreciate any advice on how to stand out academically.

The United States Coast Guard Academy is a highly competitive institution and most successful applicants demonstrate strong academic performances. Typical admitted students often have high school GPAs ranging from 3.6 to 4.0. That said, these figures serve as a general benchmark and are not absolute cutoffs.

The Academy will rigorously assess your full academic record, including the rigor of the coursework you took in high school, your grades, your class rank, and any trends in your academic performance. Taking a heavy load of honors and AP courses and achieving high grades in them can demonstrate your intellectual curiosity, academic prowess, and ability to handle an intensive academic environment.

Aside from having a strong GPA, scoring well on standardized tests is crucial. While they don't publish minimum requirements, the middle 50% range for SAT scores of admitted students is typically 1250-1400 and for ACT scores, it's usually around 28-32. Remember, the application process is holistic, so demonstrating leadership or unique achievements through extracurricular activities or taking on challenging summer opportunities can help you stand out.

Additionally, physical fitness is essential in Coast Guard Academy admissions. The Academy uses a Physical Fitness Exam (PFE) that all applicants must pass. This includes push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run. So make sure you work on your physical fitness as well!
