How challenging is the Coast Guard Academy?

I've heard that the Coast Guard Academy can be pretty tough. Can anyone share what makes it challenging, whether it's academics, physical training, or something else? I'd like to know what to expect if I apply.

These challenges seek to equip students with the resilience, leadership skills, and knowledge required to succeed in the Coast Guard.

Academically, the courses are intensive and demanding. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including both humanities and STEM fields like civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering; government; marine and environmental sciences; management; and other naval sciences. The faculty holds high expectations for student performance, which can contribute to the academic challenge.

Physical training is another critical element of Academy life. Much of this training is built into the program – cadets should anticipate regular physical fitness tests and mandatory participation in a sport each semester. Training exercises often involve running, swimming, weightlifting, and endurance activities. Additionally, the military lifestyle is incorporated into daily life, with discipline, uniform inspections, and regulation adherence being constant elements.
