What's daily life like at the Coast Guard Academy?

I've been considering applying to the Coast Guard Academy, but I'm curious about what day-to-day life is actually like there. How does the schedule look, and what do cadets do in their free time, if they have any?

A typical day at the Coast Guard Academy is structured, purposeful and keenly focused on personal and professional development. Cadets follow a defined schedule that starts early with morning drills or exercise, continues with academic classes throughout the day, and ends with personal study, mandatory activities, or free time in the evening.

Starting around 6:00 am, the day often begins with physical training, which could be a structured team exercise or individual workout. This is followed by breakfast (7:00 am) and then morning formation, where cadets come together in uniform for inspection and announcements.

Academic classes typically run from 7:55 am to about 4:00 pm, but contrary to expectations, they aren't held continuously. Each class lasts for approximately an hour and is followed by a break. These breaks give cadets time to prepare for their next class, check in with teachers during office hours, or relax for a bit.

Once classes are done, there's a sports period during which cadets participate in varsity, club, or intramural sports. This is a significant aspect of daily cadet life as the Academy emphasizes physical fitness and team-building skills.
