The United States Coast Guard Academy provides a bachelor of science degree with a full tuition scholarship and a guarantee of employment upon graduation. As it is a service academy, all students are required to take part in military training while enrolled, as well as commit to serve in the Coast Guard upon graduation. This symbiotic relationship provides students with a free education and a guaranteed job once they complete their studies.

The academy offers eight majors, all of which are grounded in a strong foundation of STEM, ensuring a comprehensive technical background that is excellent preparation for a career in the Coast Guard or beyond in various fields. Here are the eight majors:

1. Civil Engineering: This program focuses on infrastructure planning, environmental engineering, and structural engineering.

2. Mechanical Engineering: Students delve into the synthesis, analysis, and design of mechanical components and systems.

3. Electrical Engineering: This program covers the broad aspects of electrical and electronic systems, from small digital circuits to large-scale power systems.

4. Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering: You'll study the design and construction of all types of vessels from yachts to aircraft carriers.

6. Cyber Systems: This major focuses on software development, network operations, and information assurance.

7. Operations Research & Computer Analysis: This applies mathematical and computational methods to the decision-making process.

8. Government: This major focuses on political science, policy, law, leadership, and management.

Additionally, the academy offers academic specializations that can be taken alongside your selected major, which include fields such as Middle Eastern studies, nuclear engineering, and music. Remember, each academic program at the academy is designed to be rigorous, relevant and accredited, preparing you for a challenging and rewarding career serving in the U.S. Coast Guard.
