Which military jobs focus on working in engine rooms?

Does anyone know what military jobs are primarily in engine rooms? I'm interested in technical and mechanical work within the military, so any details about these positions, the skills needed, and potential career paths would be great!

There are several roles in the military which focus on working in engine rooms, particularly in the Navy and Coast Guard.

In the Navy, you might consider becoming a Machinist's Mate (MM). MMs operate, maintain, and repair ship propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, and outside machinery, such as steam engines and pumps. They work in engine rooms and other mechanical spaces. To be an MM, you need mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and physical strength.

Another Navy role is that of Engineman (EN). ENs are trained in diesel engines, gas turbines, and outboard motors. They might also work with the electrical and refrigeration aspects related to marine engines.

In the Coast Guard, the role of Machinery Technician (MK) might suit your interests. MKs are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Coast Guard's diesel engines, gas turbines, outboard motors, and other equipment.

It's also worth noting that in addition to technical training, employment in these military positions can lead to civilian careers in various sectors such as manufacturing, maritime industry, and even the energy sector.

Lastly, it might be helpful to seek out current or former service members who served in these roles to gain more firsthand knowledge about the experience.
