What GPA Do You Need for the US Coast Guard Academy?

I'm interested in applying to the US Coast Guard Academy and I'm curious about the GPA requirement. Does anyone know what GPA range is considered competitive for their admissions process? Any insights or personal experiences would be appreciated!

The United States Coast Guard Academy is quite competitive, and they typically look for candidates with strong academic backgrounds. While there isn't a fixed minimum GPA, majority of accepted applicants tend to have high school GPAs in the range of 3.5-4.0.

However, keep in mind that the academy looks at more than just your GPA. They also evaluate the rigor of your coursework. A higher GPA with mostly standard classes may not be as illustrative of your abilities as a slightly lower GPA in courses with greater rigor, such as honors and Advanced Placement courses.

Also, remember that your academic record is just one aspect of your application. The Admissions Committee also takes into consideration your leadership and athletic abilities, recommendations, and character assessment. Being physically fit, exhibiting strong leadership qualities, and demonstrating a commitment to service can greatly enhance your candidacy.

In regards to standardized testing, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the US Coast Guard Academy does still require applicants to submit either the SAT or the ACT.

Having said all this, every application is unique, and all aspects of a candidate's profile are considered. If the Coast Guard Academy is your top choice, it can be beneficial to reach out to an Admissions officer for further guidance tailored to your specific situation.
