Understanding the Naval Academy cadet entry scheme

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland, is an undergraduate college that prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. 1) Candidate Qualification: To become a candidate for admission, you must be between 17 and 23 years old, a U.S. citizen, unmarried, with no dependents, and in good physical and mental health. In addition, you have to do well academically, primarily in mathematics, English, and science courses. Your high school curriculum should be rigorous, including relevant AP classes that demonstrate academic excellence.

2) Nomination: In order to apply, you need to secure a nomination, typically from a U.S. senator, U.S. representative, or the Vice President. Other nomination sources are available for candidates with military connections. It's advised to start this process early, as it can be time-consuming.

3) Application: You'll complete an online application, which includes sections on personal data, extracurricular activities, athletics, leadership positions held, and your SAT/ACT scores.
