Can anyone give insights on the Naval Academy overnight visit?

I've heard about the overnight visits at the Naval Academy and I'm curious about what they entail. What should I expect if I decide to go on one, and how can I make the most out of it?

The Naval Academy overnight visit, officially known as the Candidate Visit Weekend (CVW), is a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into the life of a Midshipman. You will be paired with a Midshipman host and get to stay in the Bancroft Hall, the largest single dormitory in the U.S.

Throughout the visit, you'll attend classes, participate in sports or other physical training activities, eat in King Hall with other Midshipmen, see the extracurricular and leadership opportunities available, and more. Essentially, you'll be following the schedule of your Midshipman host, to get a realistic view on what a typical day would look like if you were to attend the Naval Academy.

As for making the most out of it, remember it's your chance to evaluate if this Academy suits you. Don't hesitate to ask your host and other Midshipmen questions about their experiences and make sure to observe how they interact with their peers and superiors. Participate actively in the activities, as it will give you a realistic feel of the lifestyle. Also, remember to be respectful and professional, keeping in mind that you're in a military environment.

Lastly, ensure you understand the commitment you're making if you choose to attend the Naval Academy, as it has a mandatory service commitment after graduation. Talking to current students about their post-graduation plans might be enlightening.

Hope this helps and best of luck on your visit!
