What does the Naval Academy Plebe Summer entail workout-wise?

I'm considering the Naval Academy and heard about Plebe Summer. Does anyone know what the workout routine is like? I'm trying to gauge the physical demands to prepare myself. Any insights would be appreciated!

The Naval Academy's Plebe Summer is certainly a physically intensive program designed to transition incoming freshmen (plebes) into the military lifestyle. Here's a general outline of what you can expect, and therefore what you might want to focus on in your preparation.

- Conditioning runs: You're likely to be doing runs on a very regular basis, often as a method of getting from place to place. The length of these can vary, but you can expect to gradually work up to around 5 miles at a time.

- Strength training: There will be intensive calisthenics workouts, including push-ups, sit-ups, squat thrusts, 8-count body builders, and more.

- Obstacle course: The Naval Academy has an infamous obstacle course that you'll need to complete. It includes climbing walls, swinging on ropes, navigating balance beams, and more, all usually done in a timed manner.

- Military movement: From marching to back crawls, the Plebe Summer includes various military movements.

- Swimming and water survival: There is a swimming requirement at the Naval Academy, and Plebe Summer often includes swim workouts and lessons in basic water survival skills.

The bottom line is that Plebe Summer is designed to challenge you physically (and mentally), but it's also designed to prepare you for life as a Naval Officer. It's an excellent idea to start conditioning before you head off, focusing on your cardio fitness, building your muscular strength (especially bodyweight exercises), and working on your swimming skills. Remember, the goal of Plebe Summer is not to "weed people out", but rather to ensure everyone is at a specific baseline of fitness and discipline.

Persistence and getting used to pushing through your physical limits will also be key. Good luck with your preparation!
