What are the requirements to apply for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar?

I want to apply to the Naval Academy Summer Seminar during my junior year, but I'm not sure what the specific requirements are. Do I need a certain GPA, or are there other criteria I should be aware of?

To apply for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS), you must be a high school junior who is a US citizen. The US Naval Academy does not specify a minimum GPA requirement, however, they use a holistic review process and take several factors into account when reviewing applications.

Academically, top students from across the United States typically apply to NASS. It's important to highlight your academic strengths, especially in challenging courses like AP and honors classes, as well as your extracurricular activities and leadership roles. You should also have a strong interest in the Naval Academy.

Although standardized tests are not required, if you have already taken the SAT, ACT, or PSAT, it's beneficial to include these scores in your application.

Furthermore, you should be in good physical condition. While attending NASS, you'll participate in a variety of physical activities, including an introduction to the Physical Readiness Test. Therefore, maintaining a regular exercise regimen is key.

Lastly, an important part of the application process is completing a personal statement. In this, you should highlight your experiences and explain why you want to attend NASS and potentially join the Naval Academy.

Do note that you are responsible for the program fee, as well as travel to and from Annapolis, Maryland.

Remember that the application process is highly competitive. The program attracts approximately 5,000 applicants and only a fraction are accepted. It's important that your application showcase your unique qualities and interests, academic abilities, and leadership experiences. Good luck with your application!
