Path from Naval Academy to BUDS?

I'm interested in both the Naval Academy and becoming a Navy SEAL. How does one go from the Naval Academy to BUDS training? What requirements or steps should I be aware of in this process?

If your goal is to become a Navy SEAL (BUD/S trainee) through the Naval Academy (USNA), here are some necessary steps:

Firstly, your journey will start with getting accepted into the USNA. You will have to meet all their academic, physical, and personal requirements, including a nomination from a member of Congress, the Vice President, President, or Secretary of the Navy.

During your time at the USNA, focus on maintaining a high performance both academically and physically. Also, consider participating in extracurricular activities that support your SEAL aspirations, such as the scuba or parachute teams.

In your junior year, you will be able to indicate your preference for service assignment, and you can express your desire to try out for the SEALS. However, competition for BUD/S spots is high, and the USNA only sends about 16-35 Midshipmen per year.

If you are selected to try out for the SEALS, you will attend the Naval Special Warfare Orientation ("Mini-BUD/S") during the summer between your junior and senior years. This week-long orientation will test your physical and mental endurance.

After Mini-BUD/S, you may be awarded a SEAL billet, but you won't know for sure until Service Assignment Night during your first semester senior year. If you receive a SEAL billet, you're officially on the path to BUD/S!

Upon graduation, you will commission as a Naval Officer and then attend SEAL Qualification Training (SQT). After the successful completion of SQT, you will then officially get your shot at BUD/S.

Good luck! It will be a challenging journey, but if it's what you want, it will definitely be rewarding. Always remember to maintain your physical health, mental sharpness, and unwavering determination.
