What are the haircut requirements for women at the Naval Academy?

I'm thinking about applying to the Naval Academy and I'm curious about the haircut regulations for women. What are the rules and expectations, and how strict are they?

At the U.S. Naval Academy, regulations for haircuts for all midshipmen are quite strict as part of maintaining uniformity and discipline. For women, the hair should not fall below the bottom edge of the collar. That doesn't mean you have to cut your hair short, however. Long hair is allowed as long as it is neatly and properly secured or tied up to not exceed the collar length.

In terms of hairstyles, they must not interfere with the proper wearing of military cover, headgear, or protective masks. Faddish and extreme hairstyles, including those with shaved portions or swaths of scalp, are not authorized. Braids, twists, micro-braids, French braids, and cornrows are also allowed as long as they follow the same criteria, adhering to the natural direction of the hair when worn loose, and are no more than a quarter-inch in diameter.

Bear in mind that all the specifics may be detailed in the joining instructions that you receive upon selection to the Academy or during your initial training. There might also be changes over time, so it's a good idea to stay updated through Naval Academy's official communication channels. Always remember that the Navy values professionalism and neatness in appearance.
