What are the obligations for attending the Naval Academy?

I've been thinking about applying to the Naval Academy and was wondering what obligations come with acceptance. Are there specific commitments I should know about during and after my time there?

If you're accepted into and attend the United States Naval Academy, you will commit to an academically rigorous program with a military focus. During your time there, you'll be expected to uphold the Naval Academy Honor Concept, which focuses on integrity and honesty. Additionally, you'll participate in a variety of leadership development and physical training programs.

Upon acceptance, you'll also make a commitment to serve in the Navy or Marine Corps after graduation. This service obligation typically lasts five years for Navy service and six years for Marine Corps service, but it can be longer for certain specialties. For instance, if you become a Naval Aviator or a Navy SEAL, your commitment will be longer because of the extensive training required for these positions.

In short, a commitment to the Naval Academy is characterized by four years of academic and military training, followed by service to the country in an active duty role. The reward, however, is a high-quality education and priceless hands-on experience in leadership from a young age, all leading to a promising career path in the military.
