What's the probability of getting into the Naval Academy?

I'm trying to assess my chances of being accepted into the Naval Academy. Can anyone share insights on what factors most influence the likelihood of acceptance? Any stats or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thanks!

Acceptance into the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) is highly competitive, with an acceptance rate typically between 8-9%, reflecting not only academic potential but also physical fitness, leadership, and character.

In terms of academics, successful candidates often have a solid GPA (think in the region of 3.5 and above) and strong standardized test scores. SAT scores are usually above 1200 and ACT scores regularly exceed 26, though keep in mind these are not strict cut-offs. Candidates are advised to complete courses in English, mathematics, science, and a foreign language before applying.

However, academics alone will not ensure admittance. The USNA also considers physical prowess, measured through the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA). The CFA consists of six events including a basketball throw, pull-ups or a flexed-arm hang, shuttle run, sit-ups, push-ups, and a one-mile run. Achieving scores above average in all these areas is usually seen positively.

Leadership potential is another important criterion. This could include holding officer positions in clubs or organizations, participating in team sports, or showing evidence of community involvement.

In addition to all these, candidates must also secure a nomination, most commonly from a U.S. Senator or Representative, and pass medical qualifications.

Keep in mind that those accepted will also commit to serve in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps upon completion of their four years at the Naval Academy.
