The Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) at the Naval Academy is a truly immersive program, intended to offer high school students a taste of life at the Naval Academy. Over the week-long program, participants engage in both academic and physical activities that are representative of the actual Plebe (or freshman) experience.

Academically, students take part in workshops and courses in subjects ranging from information technology to naval architecture, all facilitated by Naval Academy faculty. This component of the program offers the opportunity to explore academic interests and helps to familiarize students with the rigorous academic environment of the Academy.

Another key element of the SLE is the physical training. Participants will be acquainted with the physical readiness test, which includes a one-mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, and other fitness measures. In addition, they may participate in rigorous exercises similar to those experienced by actual midshipmen during their Sea Trials, a capstone event for Plebes at the end of their first year.
