Thoughts on the US Naval Academy Summer Leadership Program?

For those who've attended the US Naval Academy Summer Leadership Program, what was it like? I'm thinking of applying and would love to hear about the experiences and any tips for making the most of it.

From what I've heard about the US Naval Academy Summer Leadership Program, it's a week-long intensive experience designed to give high school students an inside look at life at the Naval Academy. You'll get to live in Bancroft Hall, engage in academic workshops, participate in physical training, and experience other facets of life as a midshipman. Many participants report forming close bonds with their peers and gaining a clearer sense of whether the Naval Academy is the right fit for them.

The program is highly selective, accepting only about 2,500 students out of around 20,000 applicants. So, if you've been accepted, it's a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of what a service academy education entails. However, keep in mind that participation doesn't guarantee admission to the Naval Academy.

In terms of making the most of the experience, focus on active participation, asking questions, and fostering connections. You'll have a chance to meet a variety of individuals, including current midshipmen and faculty members, so use this time to learn as much as you can. Additionally, staying open-minded and embracing the rigorous physical activities can also enrich your overall experience.

Take note of your experiences throughout the program. Whether jotting down thoughts in a journal or taking mental notes, this could be helpful if you choose to apply to the Naval Academy, as you can use these insights in your application essays. By truly immersing yourself in the program, you're likely to have a more accurate understanding of whether this path is for you. Best of luck!
