What Is the Naval Academy Prep School About?

Can someone explain to me what the Naval Academy Prep School is like? I'm particularly interested in understanding if it improves chances of getting into the Naval Academy and what the curriculum focuses on.

The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), located in Newport, Rhode Island, is a 10-month program that helps prepare selected students for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA). It's a great opportunity for those who display strong potential but might need some additional academic preparation to excel at the academy. The school hosts about 250 students each year.

NAPS is intended to improve the academic abilities of students, particularly in the areas of math, chemistry, physics, and English – subjects that are vital to success at USNA. Additionally, there's a strong focus on physical fitness and military discipline, crucial elements of academy life.

And to answer your question about admission chances, yes, attending NAPS does significantly increase your chances of getting into the Naval Academy. In fact, about 98% of NAPS students who complete the program are offered appointments to the naval academy.

Keep in mind that while doing well at NAPS can greatly improve your chances of admission to the Naval Academy, it's not guaranteed. Students still have to meet the academy's stringent physical, character, and leadership standards.
