How to Apply for the College Bound Scholarship in High School?

I've heard about the College Bound Scholarship and I'm interested in applying. Does anyone know the application process and deadlines for high school students? Any tips for a strong application?

The College Bound Scholarship is a great opportunity for students in Washington State who meet certain income and academic criteria. Here's how you apply:

1. You need to apply between 7th and 8th grade in middle school. So, if you haven't done so by the time you enter high school, you're sadly too late. An eligible student needs to have enrolled in the College Bound Scholarship program by June 30 of their 8th grade year.

2. To be eligible, you need to be a student in Washington State, who is eligible for the free or reduced-price lunch program, who hasn't committed or been convicted of a felony, and who promises to graduate from a high school with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (to ensure you're on track for college-readiness).

3. After applying, you get a confirmation letter and certificate to acknowledge your commitment. Hold onto these! They're a good reminder of your goal to attend college.

Once in high school, if you have already signed up for the College Bound Scholarship, your main goal should be keeping your eligibility for the scholarship by meeting its requirements:

- Graduate with at least a 2.0 GPA: Maintain your grades and make sure you're passing. Don’t hesitate to ask for help from a teacher or a counselor if you're struggling.

- Apply to an eligible college: You have many options, including two-year and four-year colleges and universities, both public and private.

- Submit your FAFSA or WASFA: These are your Free Application for Federal Student Aid or your Washington Application for State Financial Aid.

- Enroll in college within one year of high school graduation: There are some exceptions for military service and religious or cultural programs.

Keep in mind that while the College Bound Scholarship is a fantastic resource, it may not cover all college costs. Make sure to explore other potential scholarships and financial aid avenues as well!
