Any scholarships for Haitian refugees applying to college?

I'm a high school student who arrived in the U.S. as a Haitian refugee. Are there scholarships specifically for students like me? I could really use some pointers on where to start my search. Thanks in advance for any helpful info!

Absolutely, there are scholarships specifically aimed at students who are refugees. When searching for scholarships, it might be helpful to not only search for scholarships for refugees in general, but also ones that are designated for Haitian students.

One example is the Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Scholarship. This scholarship is specifically for students of Haitian descent in the Chicago area. Similarly, the Haitian American Scholarship is available for seniors of Haitian origin living in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Additionally, some universities have their own scholarships for refugee students. It's worthwhile checking with the schools you're interested in to see if they have any aid programs like these. For example, Columbia University's Scholarship for Displaced Students provides tuition, housing, and living expense support for refugees who have been granted asylum or approved Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

Furthermore, there are also general scholarships aimed at minority students which you may be eligible for.

Lastly, you should definitely fill out the FAFSA to see what federal aid you may be eligible for. The Student Aid Index (SAI) will give you a benchmark to understand what government aid you may be eligible for. Be sure to check out the aid policies of the schools to which you're applying, as some may consider your unique circumstances when making financial aid determinations.

Remember, when applying for scholarships, be sure to start early and pay attention to application deadlines. Many scholarships have different applications processes and some may require essays or other materials. Good luck with your search!
