Which scholarships are the most well-known and competitive?

Besides the big names like Coca-Cola and Gates, what are some of the most well-known scholarships that I should keep on my radar? I'm starting my search and want to make sure I'm aiming for the right ones. Any personal recommendations?

While there are many prestigious scholarships available, there are a few that garner a particularly high level of recognition due to the size of the award or their selectivity. Here are some you might want to consider:

1. Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarships: This one is for high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills, and community involvement.

2. Buick Achievers Scholarship Program: They give out a substantial amount of aid to students pursuing degrees in engineering, technology, design, or business-related fields, with strong preference to those focusing on the automotive industry.

3. The National Merit Scholarship Program: An academically competitive scholarship based solely on the PSAT/NMSQT scores, it's very well-known and highly respected.

4. The Intel Science Talent Search: Also referred to as the Intel STS, this one is a high-profile competition for students interested in STEM fields.

5. Davidson Fellows Scholarship: This one awards scholarships to students who've completed a significant piece of work in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literature, Music, Philosophy, or 'Outside the Box.'

6. The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation: Available to students demonstrating leadership potential, a commitment to public service, and a desire to run for office.

These are just a few examples of the most competitive scholarships. Remember, while it's great to aim high, don't discount the less well-known scholarships, many of which receive fewer applicants and can offer you a better shot at winning. Good luck with your scholarship search!
