Are there scholarships for children of first responders?

I'm trying to find college scholarships available for students whose parents are first responders. My mom's a paramedic, and I’d love to know if there are any specific ones I should be aware of as I start applying.

Sure, there are definitely scholarships available for children of first responders, including paramedics! If you're in high school and starting to think about college, it might be worth checking out a couple different avenues to find scholarships specific to your situation.

New York State's Higher Education Services Corporation offers the Memorial Scholarship for Children and Spouses of Deceased Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, Police Officers, Peace Officers, and Emergency Medical Service Workers which might be something you'd want to look into.

Another option is the First Responders Children's Foundation's General Scholarship. It's available to children of first responders who have either died in the line of duty or have become permanently disabled due to their line of work. This could be worth considering if your parent had an unfortunate incident on the job.

You should also consider looking at community-based scholarships from local organizations. Often, unions representing first responders will have scholarship programs, and local businesses might also support scholarships for children of first responders.

Lastly—though not first responder-specific—be sure to use scholarship search tools, such as Appily, to seek out other scholarships you might be eligible for based on other criteria (like your intended field of study, location, GPA, etc.)

I hope this helps, and best of luck in your scholarship search!
