The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) is one of the premier maritime institutions in the Philippines. The academy provides a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering.

The Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation program is designed to prepare students for the maritime industry. This includes courses covering topics like navigation, cargo handling and stowage, control of ship and care of persons on board, marine law, meteorology, and several more. The curriculum also covers all the competencies needed by a Deck Officer like seamanship, navigation, ship handling, and cargo operations.

The Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering program provides a fundamental and broad overview of Engineering in the Marine environment. The subjects included in the curriculum are practical as well as theoretical so that students understand not only the operations but also the technology behind it. Key topics include marine electrical technology, mechanics, thermal sciences, naval architecture, and more.

The curriculum of PMMA also incorporates leadership and character building, as well as physical training alongside examination-driven academic courses.

In addition to these courses, PMMA trains cadets to become competent and ethical marine professionals by providing them with practical experience through onboard training in their third year of the course.

Upon graduation, PMMA passers are eligible to take officer- level licensure examinations. Also, graduates of PMMA enjoy the privilege of automatically becoming reserve officers in the Philippine Navy.

In conclusion, the curriculum offered by PMMA is comprehensive and well-rounded, blending both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. It's designed to prepare students with the necessary skills to thrive in a maritime career and provides a bridge to potential opportunities within the Philippine Navy.
