The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) is one of the five federal service academies, located in Kings Point, New York. Its primary purpose is to educate and graduate merchant mariners who serve America's maritime transportation and defense needs in times of peace and war.

Students, known as midshipmen, undergo rigorous academic, physical, and professional training over a four-year regimen. This includes three trimesters a year of study in subjects like marine engineering, naval science, transportation, business administration, and maritime law.
