How do Ohio students find college scholarships and grants specific to them?

Living in Ohio, I'm curious if there are any particular scholarships or grants for students from our state. Does anyone know of resources or state-specific programs that I can look into as I apply for college?

One well-known program for Ohio residents is the Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG), which provides need-based financial assistance to in-state students enrolled in two-year, four-year, and public technical programs. The grant amount will depend on your educational institution and your family income, as determined through your FAFSA.

You should also look into the Choose Ohio First scholarship program, which targets students enrolled in STEM disciplines. This scholarship aims to increase Ohio's competitiveness within STEM disciplines and STEM education.

The Ohio War Orphans Scholarship Program is another worthwhile resource for children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans.

Remember to file your FAFSA as early as possible to establish your eligibility for these state programs, as well as federal grant and loan programs. It can also be helpful to contact your desired university's financial aid office, as they may know of school-specific aid for Ohio residents.

Also, don't overlook local opportunities. Many local organizations and businesses offer scholarships to students from their community. Check out the websites of your local chamber of commerce, rotary club, and other community organizations for potential local scholarships.

Lastly, make sure to explore Appily, which is a free scholarship search engine. Here, you can set filters based on your location, major, and other personal characteristics to find scholarships that would be a good fit for you. This can be a great tool for finding scholarships you might not encounter elsewhere.

In any case, apply to a range of scholarships - the more you apply, the better your chances of success. And remember, some smaller scholarships might have less competition than the big ones, so they're definitely worth applying for too! Good luck with your search!
