Best women's sports to get college scholarships?

As a female athlete, I'm exploring different sports options that could lead to college scholarships. Which sports tend to have the best opportunities for women in terms of scholarship availability?

Female athletes have diverse opportunities for college scholarships across a number of sports, but in terms of sheer volume, certain sports typically offer more scholarships than others.

1. Basketball: This sport tends to have a high number of scholarships available. NCAA Division I teams have 15 scholarships per school, while Division II teams have about 10 each.

2. Volleyball: Similar to basketball, volleyball provides numerous scholarship opportunities, especially since it's a growing sport among women. Division I teams offer up to 12 scholarships, while Division II teams have around 8.

3. Track and Field/Cross Country: The number of scholarships in these sports can be significant because of the range of events that require different skills sets. Division I teams have 18 scholarships, and Division II teams have 12.5.

4. Soccer: With soccer's popularity on international and national levels, it continues to be a sport with generous scholarship opportunities - 14 for Division I and 9.9 for Division II.

5. Softball: Softball has 12 scholarships for Division I and 7.2 for Division II teams.

Remember, these scholarship numbers are maximums, so not every school will offer the full amount. Also, scholarships can and often are divided amongst multiple athletes.

Sports with fewer scholarships include golf (6 for Division I and II) and gymnastics (12 for Division I, none for Division II), but that shouldn't discourage you if these are your sports of choice.

Beyond these, Emerging Sports for Women such as rugby, triathlon, and equestrian also offer scholarship opportunities, although on a smaller scale.

In the end, the "best" sport will depend on your personal skills, interests, and commitment level. While certain sports may offer more scholarships, you'll have the best opportunity in a sport where you can excel and demonstrate a high level of skill and leadership. What's most important isn't necessarily choosing the sport with the most scholarships, but finding one that you're passionate about and committed to. Such a genuine interest is often what grabs coaches' attention!
