What can I expect from the Naval Academy Summer Seminar?

I've been looking into the Naval Academy Summer Seminar and was wondering what it's really like. Can anyone share their experiences or insights on what attendees typically do and learn during the program?

The Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) is a program designed to give rising high school seniors a taste of life at the Naval Academy, as well as introduce them to the rigorous curriculum and physical training that prepares Midshipmen for successful careers as Navy officers.

During this seminar, you'll participate in a variety of activities spanning from academic workshops to physical training. In the classrooms, you get to sample core curriculum subjects like mathematics, naval science, ethics, and engineering. These sessions are designed to not only provide intellectual stimulation, but also offer a realistic expectation for the types of academic challenges you'll encounter at the academy.

A considerable part of the program is also dedicated to physical activities intended to introduce you to the physical readiness required of Midshipmen. This could include activities such as swimming, group workouts, and obstacle courses.

An important aspect of NASS is leadership development. You'll participate in workshops and activities that focus on team-building and leadership, elements that are integral to the Naval Academy experience.

Additionally, you'll have opportunities to engage with current Midshipmen and faculty members, giving you valuable insight into the social aspects and community culture of the Academy.

Just keep in mind that the program is highly selective, with a very limited number of spots available. It is meant to be immersive and challenging, very much like life at the actual academy, so be prepared for the academic rigor and physical demands. Despite its challenges, many attendees find the program to be an invaluable introduction to life at the Naval Academy.
