What's it like studying at the Merchant Marine Academy in New York?

I'm considering applying to the Merchant Marine Academy in NY but I'm not sure what to expect. Does anyone know what student life is like there?

Studying at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, New York, is known for offering an experience unlike typical colleges, as it is one of the five U.S. service academies. This means student life is shaped by an atmosphere of discipline, commitment, and rigorous training.

The academic program is challenging and heavily focused on fields like marine engineering and marine transportation. Combining classroom learning with real-world experience, students spend a considerable amount of time studying applied science and the maritime industry.
