Hey guys, I can't decide between MIT and Harvard as my top choice to apply early. I'm interested in computer science and engineering, but I also like the idea of a liberal arts education. Can someone help me understand the main differences between these two schools and maybe which one would suit me better based on my interests? Thanks for your help!
Hi there! It's great that you're considering MIT and Harvard as your top choices. Both schools are excellent in their own right, but they do have some key differences that might help you make a decision.
MIT is primarily known for its science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focus, particularly with its renowned computer science and engineering programs. If you're passionate about these fields and know for a fact that you want to pursue a career in them, MIT might be a better fit for you.
On the other hand, Harvard offers a liberal arts education with a more balanced approach to subjects, including humanities and social sciences. While Harvard also has strong computer science and engineering programs, they may not be as singularly famous as MIT's. If you want a well-rounded education that allows you to explore your interests beyond STEM, then Harvard could be a better choice for you.
One idea to help you decide would be to visit the campuses, if possible, and get a sense of the atmosphere and environment at each school. You could also try reaching out to current students or alumni to get their advice based on your interests. Good luck on your college search!
