What are the most common unclaimed scholarships?

I'm trying to find out about scholarships that often go unclaimed. Are there any specific ones that students tend to overlook? I'm a high school junior and want to maximize my chances of finding financial aid for college.

Unclaimed scholarships tend to fall under two categories: local scholarships or field/interest-specific scholarships.

Local Scholarships: Scholarships offered by local businesses, clubs, and organizations often receive fewer applications. This could be the local Rotary club, the community bank, or even a small-town business looking to give back to the community. These scholarships might not appear in big scholarship databases, so it's worth reaching out to these entities or checking their websites. Also, don't overlook your high school's guidance office; they usually have information on local scholarships.

Field/Interest-Specific Scholarships: These are scholarships geared towards very specific fields of study or particular hobbies. For example, the American Sheep Industry Association has a Make It With Wool competition for students who have an interest in sewing, knitting, or fashion design. Then there's the Tall Clubs International Scholarship for tall people who are under 21. There's even the National Potato Council Scholarship for graduate students conducting research that could benefit the potato industry.

My advice would be to think about what makes you unique: your interests, hobbies, passions, and then look for scholarships related to those. You might be surprised by what's out there! In addition, don't forget about financial aid from the colleges themselves, which can often be more substantial than external scholarships. Good luck with your scholarship hunt!
