What are the dorms like at the United States Merchant Marine Academy?

I'm starting to think about my living situation if I attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Can anyone share their experiences with the dorms there? Are they comfortable, and what's the social scene like on campus?

At the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), all freshman students, also known as "plebes," live in communal style dorms situated in Barry, Jones, and Cleveland Halls. These halls are known for being quite clean and well-maintained. Each room generally holds two students, so you will likely have a roommate. There are also communal bathrooms on each floor. The rooms come furnished with study desks, closets, and beds.

Another aspect to consider in terms of comfort is the Academy's strict regimentation. As a federal service academy, the USMMA imposes certain rules and standards to foster discipline and camaraderie among students. Therefore, plebes are expected to keep their rooms tidy at all times, and there are regular inspections to ensure compliance.

In terms of the social aspect, a lot of it heavily revolves around the Academy’s regimental lifestyle and activities. Despite the rigorous academic schedule, there are many social events including sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities which students usually engage in.
