Ideas for scholarships offered to college transfer students?

I’m planning to transfer to another college next year and I'm on the lookout for scholarships dedicated to transfer students. Where should I look, and what are some scholarships that might be available?

Certainly, many organizations and colleges themselves offer scholarships specifically for transfer students to ease the financial burden of transitioning to a new institution.

First, it's highly advisable to start your search with the college you're transferring to. Many universities have scholarships dedicated to transfer students. For instance, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers Illinois Commitment which covers in-state tuition and fees for new transfer students from families with an income of $67,100 or less. Arizona State University offers the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) scholarship to transfer students from a two-year or community college who are members of the PTK honor society.

Speaking of PTK, they offer a number of their own scholarships, including the All-USA Academic Team Scholarship, Guistwhite Scholarship, and Hites Transfer Scholarship. These awards are competitive and based on academic achievement and leadership.

There are also national scholarships designed for students transferring from a community college to a four-year institution. For example, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship offers up to $40,000 per year for transfer students.

Finally, don't forget to utilize online scholarship databases, such as Appily or Fastweb, and filter it based on your status as a transfer student.

Keep in mind that each scholarship will have its own eligibility requirements, including GPA thresholds, financial need, or particular fields of study, so make sure to carefully consider these factors when deciding which scholarships to apply for. Take some time to research, seek out opportunities, and submit thoughtful applications. Good luck with your search!
