Where Do Most Black Scholarships Come From?

I'm a Black student looking for scholarships specifically tailored to me. Anyone know where most Black scholarships are offered or some good places to start my search? Any personal experiences or resources would be super helpful as I navigate this process!

There are various sources that offer Black scholarships. Here's where you can find some:

1. Universities and Colleges: Many institutions offer ethnically based scholarships. You can review the scholarship page of the colleges you're interested in to see if they offer student-based scholarships.

2. Organizations, Foundations, and Corporations: There are several organizations that offer scholarships specifically for Black students. For instance, the United Negro College Fund provides scholarships for Black students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) also offers scholarships. On the corporate side, companies like Microsoft, for example, have minority scholarship programs.

3. Professional Associations: Depending on your intended major or field, professional organizations related to that field may offer scholarships. For example, the National Black Nurses Association offers scholarships to Black students pursuing a career in nursing.

4. Local community and clubs: Local organizations, such as Rotary clubs and community foundations, often offer scholarships to residents of a particular geographic area or students attending a local high school.

When you start your search, a good step would be to use Appily's scholarship engine. You can filter by ethnic background to find scholarships specifically tailored towards Black students. It's also a great idea to check out your school's financial aid office—they often have a list of available scholarships and can be an excellent resource.

Do remember that an application that stands out often goes beyond just meeting the baseline requirements, such as including a strong personal essay or having a unique personal attribute or experience. The more time and effort you put into your application, the higher the chance of earning that scholarship. Good luck!
